WATERFORD, MI, March 11, 2025 -- During the month of February, and in honor of Black History Month, the Detroit PBS (Public Broadcasting Station) celebrated and screened the noted American professor, historian, author, and filmmaker, Henry Louis Gates, Jr.’s, new documentary series Great Migrations – A People on the Move at the historic Michigan Central Station in Detroit, Michigan.
During the free three-February weekend event, Metro Detroiters had the opportunity to view the film and share with Detroit PBS their personal migration stories or histories of how their families came to Detroit and the lives they created.
On February 22nd, a wonderful panel discussion amongst community leaders took place who discussed “what drew Black Americans from the South to Detroit, the challenges and opportunities they encountered in the city, and how their legacy continues to influence our city and region.”
The award-winning author, genealogist, and historian Eric B. Willis' paternal family’s migration story was documented in his book “The Willis Handbook: An Intersection of Genealogy, Memoirs and History of a Black American Family – 1835-2003,” p.129-131. WATERFORD, MI, December 3, 2024 -- "A great time was had at last week's Rochester Author & Book Fair," said Eric B. Willis, an award-winning author, genealogist, and historian. Willis was one of 20 local authors chosen out of a pool of over a 100 authors to participate in the 6th annual event at the Rochester Hills Public Library. The Rochester Writers organization and its founder Michael Dwyer hosted the event. "I'm always grateful and blessed to have people come out and support me and the other authors. I'm honored," said Willis.

WATERFORD, MI, September 9, 2024 -- The award-winning author, genealogist, and historian, Eric B. Willis, recently participated in the Harlem Book Fair 2024 in New York City. Willis expressed, "As always, I enjoyed engaging with new readers and other authors at this prestigious and world-renowned book fair--surrounded by a historically and culturally rich community. This was a tremendous and unforgettable experience, including being provided with the opportunity to talk on the main stage before a wonderful audience about my latest literary work A Black Man's Existence as a White Jew.
Willis said he was honored to have met two distinguished gentlemen at the event—Mr. Max Rodriguez, the founder of the Harlem Book Fair and the founder and publisher of the QBF: The Black Book Review and Mr. Bob McNeil, the HBF main stage host, author, poet, essayist, and artist.
"I was also overjoyed that my Manhattan, New York family came out to visit and support me as well, Willis added.
